Brokaw, King Appear on Millennial Podcast to Talk Success and Failure

By A.J. Katz

Are you a millennial? How about a general podcast junkie? If you fall into either (or both) of these categories, then you’ll likely get a kick out of the new podcast series How I Got Here, which launches tomorrow on PodcastOne.

An interview series hosted by recent Georgetown University graduates and roommates Tim Barnicle and Harry Hill, How I Got Here explores the successes and missteps of legends in their respective fields; coming of age stories, if you will. The first two episodes feature sit-down interviews with TV news luminaries Tom Brokaw and Larry King, respectively.

Hill, a fan of This American Life, said he was surprised to learn about the role that luck and randomness played in the success of both men. “Larry King was walking down the street in New York when he ran into a radio announcer who suggested he pursue the business in Miami, and he never looked back,” Hill exclusively told TVNewser. “Tom Brokaw went from local news in Sioux City to the coveted NBC spot in Los Angeles in a matter of months, riding a wave he couldn’t really control.  These are really talented men, but they would be the first to tell you that they have been very lucky.”

Barnicle, whose go-to podcasts include WTF with Marc Maron and Fresh Air, said a millennial audience will absolutely relate to the stories told by Brokaw, King and future guests. “When you talk to someone our age, you find a lot of people struggling to find their niche, and struggling with the ups and downs of the real world,” said Barnicle. “When you listen to the podcast, you’ll find that even the Tom Brokaws and Larry Kings of the world had the same internal struggle of doubt. They may be icons, but they are still human, and I think that people will enjoy hearing their stories.”
