Eight minutes into the 8pm ET hour on CNN (one hour after the bridge collapsed and 29 minutes after CNN first reported the story) Paula Zahn broke away from coverage telling viewers, “…we are going to come back to the breaking story out of Minneapolis when we’re able to bring you new information, but right now, we’re going to focus on a different drama playing out…” (It was a story on Donald Rumsfeld testifying on Capitol Hill about the Pat Tillman death in Afghanistan.)
About two-and-a-half minutes later she did return to the story, talking to an eyewitness to the collapse.
