Brian Williams Makes First Public Appearance Since NBC Suspension

NBC’s Brian Williams attended a fundraiser for his high school alma mater, Mater Dei Prep in Middletown, New Jersey Saturday night. Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be a news story. But because it’s Williams’s first public appearance since his suspension from NBC News 6 weeks ago, it is.

Brian Williams told The Two River Times, “This is Mater Dei. It’s been a very, very important part of my life. I had four great years here. I did not know it then, but it was the last degree I’d ever earn,” he said. “It’s a wonderful school, and it should be open for a long time, for everybody,” he added.

The event raised nearly $900,000 of its $1 million goal which will help keep the doors open to the Catholic school. In February the 50-year-old school announced it would have close in June if money couldn’t be found to keep it open. Williams and his wife Jane Stoddard Williams donated $50,000.
