Brian Williams: Baseball On Block Island

Today’s New York Times tells of last week’s Ad Council annual Public Service Award ceremony, emceed by NBC’s Brian Williams and honoring Time Warner Inc. Chairman Richard Parsons.

Turns out that both Williams and Parsons vacation on Block Island, Rhode Island. Williams told ceremony attendees that he and his son, a high school baseball player, like to practice at the wide-open space of the Block Island airport. “He said their practice was sometimes interrupted,” the paper reports, “by Mr. Parsons’s landing in the Time Warner helicopter.”

Parsons told guests that “one time his helicopter was forced to circle before landing; he said the airport tower said it was because of ‘a guy and his kid playing baseball on the runway.’

“‘Apparently, it’s really like an important guy,” Parsons continued, ‘they think it’s Tom Brokaw. Who knew, right?'”
