Brian Stelter Calls Lewandowski Hire: ‘The Most Controversial Addition to CNN in Several Years’

By Chris Ariens

Following a Page Six item Friday night that claimed a “revolt” was occurring at CNN over its hiring of former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, CNN’s own media reporter Brian Stelter did some digging among his own colleagues.

“I approached this story the same way I would if I worked at my former employer The New York Times and I found no signs of a revolt and no organized protest about Lewandowski’s hiring,” Stelter said this morning on Reliable Srouces. “But I did find some discomfort. There are some people that are uncomfortable with the hiring, and there might be some awkward moments in the makeup room. But everyone also said they understand the hiring.”

HowardKurtzStill, Stelter called it “the most controversial addition to CNN in several years.” Reliable Sources spent more than 10 minutes on the topic.

Over on FNC’s Media Buzz, host Howard Kurtz left it for a brief mention at the end-of-the-show Buzzworthy segment. Kurtz called Lewandowski’s hiring “a sad move by CNN,” adding, “I just don’t see where this helps CNN’s credibility in covering Donald Trump.”

Lewandowski was fired by the Trump campaign last Monday and hired as a paid political contributor by CNN on Thursday.
