Boxing to Use Instant Reply for First Time in Pacquiao Fight

By Cam Martin

The third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Mañuel Marquez on Nov. 12 in Las Vegas will feature the use of instant replay for the first time ever in a championship boxing match. The technology was authorized for use in Nevada in 2009, and will be used for this match in part because the two previous bouts between these two fighters ended controversially in a draw and a split decision in Pacquiao’s favor, said Nevada Athletic Commission Chairman Keith Kizer.

The rule reads,

A referee at the conclusion of a contest or exhibition stopped immediately due to an injury to an unarmed combatant pursuant to NAC 467.718 and after making a decision, may view a replay if available in order to determine whether the injury in question was caused a legal blow or a foul.
