Bob Schieffer’s Pistol-Packin Party

By Jessica

Did Face the Nation’s Bob Schieffer always know he was destined to host a honky-tonk hoedown? As he proudly showed TVNewser at the party for his new book Bob Schieffer’s America last night, he designed a personalized leather belt for himself back in high school. And we must admit, he wore it well. “I read your site everyday,” he told us as he flashed his fine craftmanship.

While standing in line for some ribs and cole slaw we overheard CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric telling HuffPo’s Rachel Sklar that she thought VP nominee Sarah Palin held her own during her recent interview on rival network ABC. Bob’s band seemed to disagree, as they sang their new song Pistol Packin’ Palin. CBS News President Sean McManus and gossip queen Liz Smith wore their best western garb and rocked along with former CBS News President Andrew Heyward and Andy Rooney, who, true to form, refused to have his picture taken, to the lyrics “As we heard from a little bird, she’s a better shot than Cheney.”
