Bob Schieffer’s Note To John Roberts

By Brian

David Bauder reports:

“Last month, when longtime CBS correspondent John Roberts left to join CNN, [Bob] Schieffer wrote him a note that spoke to his perspective. Roberts had been considered Rather’s most likely successor but wasn’t a favorite of CBS chief Leslie Moonves, and when McManus said in January he didn’t see anybody currently at CBS getting the job, it was clear to Roberts it was time to go.”

According to Schieffer, the note said:

“Maybe when you’re my age they’ll offer the job to you, and by then, you’ll know you don’t need it.”
