Bob Schieffer on Bernard Goldberg’s Criticisms. Helen Thomas on Being “A Liberal”

By Chris Ariens

Well, it’s Saturday, and while cleaning out the ‘ole inbox, we came across this from SeattlePI.com’s Big Blog – a write-up on Monday’s Bob Schieffer and Helen Thomas appearance at a luncheon in Seattle sponsored by CityClub.

When an audience member asked Schieffer about former CBS Newsman Bernard Goldberg’s criticism of the mainstream media (documented on TVNewser), Schieffer said, “I don’t think he’s right. I never thought he’s right. He’s found a way to make a living by criticizing CBS news and journalism as a whole.”

Another audience member asked Thomas what she thought of media barons such as Rupert Murdoch gaining control over the news. Thomas responded that it was “terrible,” adding “I’m a liberal and I can’t stand these people. I hate the domination of the ultra-right in all of our opinions.”

Schieffer and Thomas were in Washington this week to receive the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award at Washington State University.
