Bloomberg To Simulcast ABC News on Election Night? Don’t Bet On It

By Alex Weprin

Yesterday evening, Benzinga.com reported that Bloomberg TV would be simulcasting ABC News’ coverage of the midterm elections November 2.

However, representatives for ABC News and Bloomberg tell TVNewser that the Benzinga story has no merit. Indeed, at some point last night, the website pulled its original story, replacing it with this one:

ABC News executives tells us that while Bloomberg is a client of ABC News and will undoubtedly use some of their material on election night, there will be no greater collaboration between the two news organizations that evening.

While the story may not be true, it will surely keep the long-rumored Bloomberg/ABC News partnership in the spotlight a bit longer.

Bloomberg may not be simulcasting ABC’s election coverage, but the story probably didn’t come out of left field. It is reasonable to think that simulcasting was brought up in discussions between the two companies.

Whether a real, extensive partnership or merger between Bloomberg and ABC News happens remains to be seen. As CBS News and CNN can attest, rumored partnerships can hang in the air for years.
