Biz Net Booking Battles

By Chris Ariens

We’ve been hearing from tipsters recently about CNBC’s booking strategy, one that appears to have a more aggressive stance on ‘exclusive’ and ‘first on’ interviews.

But what happens when a guest is not exclusive to CNBC? Apparently, they get canceled. The TalkingBizNews blog reports, when former NYSE chairman Dick Grasso, who was running the exchange on 9/11/01, turned up on Fox Business and Fox News yesterday on the 8th anniversary of the attacks, CNBC said “no thanks.”

When Grasso refused to cancel on Fox, CNBC then canceled his appearance, even though the closing of the stock exchange for a week after the Sept. 11 attacks was one of the biggest business news stories during the time period.

The Grasso booking paved the way for FBN to call their interview — what else? — exclusive.
