Ben Carson Clashes With Katty Kay: ‘Can You Turn Her Microphone Off?’

By Mark Joyella

Trump surrogate Ben Carson really, really wants to move past talk of sexual assault and on to bigger concerns—like “the train going off the cliff.” It’s unclear if he meant the Trump Train or America.

But when the BBC’s Katty Kay attempted to get Dr. Carson to answer a question about the women who have stepped forward to accuse Donald Trump of sexual assault, Carson was displeased.

“Are you saying these women are lying?” Kay asked.

“That’s your characterization because you need to characterize it that way to try to make me the bad guy,” Carson said, and Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough stepped in to say nobody was trying to make Carson “the bad guy,” and it was a “simple yes or no question.”

As Kay attempted to press Carson, he refused to listen. “Stop,” he said, repeatedly. “Hey, can you turn her microphone off, please?”

Willie Geist immediately said “no,” leaving Carson in the awkward position of having tried to silence the only woman on a panel discussing sexual assault of women.

Later Carson said it doesn’t matter if the women are lying or not. “What matters is that the train is going off the cliff. We’re taking our eye off of that and getting involved in other issues.”
