Basic Cable Ranker: Week of July 23

Fox News Channel continues to attract Americans across all hours.

The network topped basic cable for the 29th consecutive week in total day viewers, and for the ninth consecutive week in total prime time viewers.

FNC also posted year-over-year growth in total viewers.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, Fox News averaged 1.3 million total viewers and 254,000 in the 25-54 demo across the 24-hour-day during the week of July 23, 2018. The 1.3 million total is +2 percent vs. the same week in 2017 (July 24).

In prime time, Fox News earned more than 2.4 million total viewers and 437,000 in the 25-54 demo on average last week. The 2.4 million prime time average is +15 percent vs. the same week last year.

FNC claimed 14 of the top 25 cable telecasts overall in total viewers, including presentations of Hannity, The Ingraham Angle and Tucker Carlson Tonight. Additionally, Hannity was the most-watched basic cable program and occupied four of the top five cable telecasts in total viewers for the week, with The Ingraham Angle claiming the No. 5 spot.

MSNBC averaged 964,000 total day viewers last week, No. 3 across all of basic cable in the daypart, and more than 1.7 million total viewers in prime time, No. 2 across all of basic cable in the daypart. In A25-54, MSNBC averaged 183,000 in total day and 318,000 in prime time this past week. The 964,000 total day audience from last week is -5 percent vs. the comparable week last year, and the 1.7 million viewer average in prime time is -7 percent vs. last year.

CNN averaged 663,000 total day viewers last week, No. 8 across basic cable, and 940,000 total viewers in prime time, which ranks No. 13. In A25-54, CNN averaged 195,000 in total day, and 299,000 in prime time. The 663,000 total viewer average across total day is -13 percent vs. the same week in 2017, and the 940,000 viewers in prime time is -4 percent vs. last year.

Aided by Shark Week programming, Discovery finished No. 1 across cable this past week among adults 25-54 by a significant margin, dominating in the demo both in prime time and across the 24-hour day.
