It appears the broadcast newsers have decided in unison to make staffing announcements right before the Thanksgiving holiday.

NBC News is now announcing that award-winning investigative reporter Gretchen Morgenson is joining the network’s investigative unit as a senior financial investigative reporter.

Morgenson steps into the role on Dec. 2

In a note to staff, NBC News’ investigative unit chief Rich Greenberg writes: “She [Morgenson] will lead our reporting on the intersection of money and power and will bolster our capability to do more in-depth, groundbreaking work, like our just-aired year-long investigation into child labor in Madagascar’s mica mines, as well as our recent pioneering series on medical devices, and the powerful Dateline hour about Epstein.”

Morgenson is widely considered one of the top investigative reporters in media. She won a Pulitzer in 2002 for her “trenchant and incisive” coverage of Wall Street at The New York Times. During her two decades at the Times, she also won three Gerald Loeb Awards, business journalism’s top honor.

For the past two years, Morgenson has served senior special writer in the investigations unit at The Wall Street Journal. In 2011, she co-authored Reckless Endangerment, a New York Times bestseller about the origins of the 2008 financial crisis.
