Autopsy Finds David Carr Had Lung Cancer

By Mark Joyella

The New York Times reports tonight that media columnist David Carr, who died suddenly Thursday night, had been suffering from lung cancer. According to results of an autopsy released Saturday evening, Carr died of complications of metastatic small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung. Heart disease was a contributing factor.

Carr, 58, had previously survived Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Carr’s death came at the end of an emotional and turbulent week in media, and despite telling colleagues he was not feeling well, he made appearances at public events and on television.
