At Sold Out Correspondents’ Dinner Journalists ‘Celebrate the Press, Not The Presidency’

By Chris Ariens

Not long after Pres. Trump once again tried to delegitimize some members of the media, the president of the organization that covers the White House said a president who tries to delegitimize journalists “is dangerous to a healthy republic.”

With the president finishing up his remarks in Harrisburg, PA, Jeff Mason took the stage at the Washington Hilton to tell the crowd at the sold out White House Correspondents Dinner, “We are here to celebrate the press, not the presidency.”

“We are not fake news. We are not failing news organizations. And we are not the enemy of the American people,” said Mason to a standing ovation.

The night’s entertainment, Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj, welcomed the crowd telling them, “Welcome to the series finale of the White House Correspondents Dinner.”
