As Nancy Grace Prepares To Go ‘Dancing,’ Critics Sharpen Their Knives

By Alex Weprin

As we noted yesterday, HLN’s Nancy Grace will be a contestant on the new season of “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC. Grace is certainly one of the more controversial figures on the new season, and some critics are already weighing in on the move.

The Washington Post:

It’s hard to blame the “DWTS” producers for their choice, and even Grace for accepting it. Her extreme persona is a perfect fit for reality TV. But something feels very wrong about a person influencing public opinion on high-profile cases one night and cha-chaing the next.

NPR:

The analysis is generally always the same: Grace, like those before her, will draw both fans and detractors. Much like the opposite of love is not hate but indifference, the opposite of a great reality show contestant isn’t a despised reality show contestant but an ignored one.

The Baltimore Sun:

In the grand tradition of Kate Gosselin and Bristol Palin, ABC is now rewarding Grace for being bad — and not just bad, but over the top bad with the “devil dancing” talk.

What does ABC get out of it? Someone for viewers to hate.
