As Expected, ’60 Minutes’ Snags Interview With Anonymous Navy SEAL

By Alex Weprin

As I speculated yesterday, CBS newsmagazine “60 Minutes” has snagged the interview with the anonymous (or not so anonymous?) Navy SEAL who is writing the tell-all book about the Osama Bin laden raid last year.

Scott Pelley announced that the interview will air on the program September 9, which also happens to be the Sunday of NFL kickoff weekend. “60 Minutes” often benefits from its NFL lead-in, though it may not have a direct NFL lead-in that day, as the CBS national game is slated to begin at 1 PM ET.

During the “CBS Evening News”, Pelley noted that the SEAL’s identity was “compromised by a television network,” adding “An editor’s note, ’60 Minutes’ has interviewed the SEAL who wrote the book under the name Mark Owen. on September 9, ’60 minutes’ will carry his first-person account on the killing of Bin Laden. the book, No Easy Day, will be released on September 11.”

Fox News, which we noted yesterday revealed the identity of the SEAL, said in a statement that “Once you write a book, anonymously or not, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy.”
