Another TV Show About TV is Coming to NBC

By Chris Ariens

NBC has picked up Great News, a comedy from the team behind 30 Rock. This time, the setting is not a late night comedy show, but TV news.

Here’s the brief from NBC:

When Katie, an up-and-coming news producer, finds out her overbearing mom has rejoined the workforce as an intern at the station where Katie works, it might just be the worst news ever. But, with her biggest cheerleader at her side, Katie might finally get the recognition she deserves. The laughs hit close to home in this new office comedy from executive producers Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and the producers of “30 Rock.”

The cast includes comedic actress Briga Heelan, of Cougar Town and Undateable, SCTV’s Andrea Martin, Adam Campbell, Kimrie Lewis-Davis, John Michael Higgins and SNL alum Horatio Sanz. Carlock, knows a good bit about the news business. His mother was a freelance journalist and his wife, Jennifer Rogers is a business reporter, and may have been the inspiration for the 30 Rock character Avery Jessup.

Tracey Wigfield is writer and executive producer of Good News. The series pick-up comes days before the broadcast networks reveal their fall programming during a full week of advertiser presentations. We’ll be there for NBC’s upfront first thing Monday morning so look for our reporting on TVNewser and Adweek, all next week.
