Ann Curry’s Ted Talk on Truth and Trust Is a Lesson for All Journalists

By Chris Ariens

Former Today show co-anchor Ann Curry, who currently hosts We’ll Meet Again on PBS, has an idea of how to restore trust in the business of journalism.

In a TedX talk in Portland, Ore., posted today on YouTube, Curry recalled watching Walter Cronkite and CBS Evening News with her dad, a “politically conservative career military man” who could always spot when bias entered a TV news report. “Stop telling me what to think. Just give me the facts,” Curry quoted her father, yelling at the TV.

Curry’s solution for the journalists of today: “Ruthlessly edit out any word or phrase or tone in your work that could get in the way of people making up their own minds.”
