Ann Curry Makes Appearance on ‘Nightly News’

By Mark Joyella

When Ann Curry made her official departure from NBC News in January, many speculated about what she’d do next. At the time, she hadn’t filed a report for NBC News since November. Turns out, one of her first national TV appearances since leaving NBC was last night–on “NBC Nightly News.”

Curry landed an exclusive interview with Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Geneva, asking him about Israeli president Benjamin Netanyahu‘s speech to a joint session of Congress. Zarif told Curry he believed Iran was “very close” to reaching an agreement on nuclear weapons.

While Curry did not file a package for “Nightly,” the broadcast did feature an extended Q&A from her interview, which is posted in full on NBCNews.com.

Curry has focused on Iran for several years, and as we told you last month, she was hired again by NBC to cover nuclear negotiations in Geneva. That trip did not result in a story, but may have led to this week’s exclusive.
