Amy Walter is leaving National Journal’s “The Hotline” and joining ABC News as political director, TVNewser has learned.
Walter will oversee all of ABC News’s political coverage including ABCNews.com’s “The Note.” She’ll also plan election coverage and provide on-air analysis of the races. Walters has been editor-in-chief of “The Hotline” for the last three years. Before that, she was senior editor of “The Cook Political Report.”
She starts at ABC August 16.

I am pleased to announce that Amy Walter is joining ABC News as our political director. From her base in Washington she will oversee all political coverage on ABCNews.com, including “The Note,” as well as help guide and plan for our coverage of all political news and provide on-air analysis. She officially starts on August 16. Amy joins us from National Journal’s “The Hotline” where she was the political publication’s editor-in-chief for the last three years.
From 1997-2007 she served as the senior editor of “The Cook Political Report. Washingtonian Magazine named her one of Washington’s top 50 journalists in 2009, and in 2000 she was honored with the Washington Post’s Crystal Ball award for her election predictions that year.
