Al Roker to Moonlight on Broadway This Fall in Waitress

Al Roker will be moonlighting on Broadway this fall, stepping into the musical Waitress for six weeks, he announced on Today this morning.

The weather and feature anchor will be appearing as Ol’ Joe—the owner of the diner at the center of the musical—from Oct. 5-Nov. 11. He’ll continue with his full Today schedule during his run on Waitress.

Roker served pie to his co-anchors after a segment that showed him preparing for the role with a vocal coach.

“I’m very nervous,” he said. “I think as a singer, I’m a terrific weatherman.”

The musical, which opened in 2016, is based on the 2007 movie starring Keri Russell (his part was played onscreen by Andy Griffith).

As for how he landed the job, “they called and asked … for some reason, they want to try and shut this thing down,” joked Roker.
