Al Roker Returns to Weather Channel to Host Mobile-First Show

By Chris Ariens

Al Roker, whose six-year-old Weather Channel show Wake up with Al was canceled last month, will return to the network with a mobile-only series called The Lift.

Launching Monday, The Lift will consist of six-to-eight clips focused on breaking weather news, nature and science stories, and viral videos. It will co-hosted by former Fox News meteorologist Domenica Davis and Ari Sarsalari

Users will be able to access The Lift from the home screen of The Weather Channel App weekdays from 6 a.m. – 11 a.m. The show will be primarily shot in a new studio, built exclusively for mobile, in the company’s Atlanta headquarters, with Roker reporting from New York before, during and after his Today show appearances.

“Last year, Weather’s digital platforms achieved 1.2 billion video views and 40 percent of those views were coming from mobile devices,” said Neil Katz, editor in chief of The Weather Company. “There is a dedicated fan base for The Weather Channel’s morning television lineup, but we also know millions of people begin their days on the Weather app.”
