Al Jazeera America Posts Dismal Ratings During Big Week of International News

By Brian Flood

Al Jazeera America has been in the news lately for things such as layoffs and cost-cutting moves, so we decided it was time to check on the network’s ratings. International news was at the forefront last week, with the Charlie Hebdo attacks and aftermath dominating coverage. But how did this impact AJAM’s viewership?

For total day viewing, AJAM was up slightly in total viewers, averaging 28,000 for the week of Jan. 5, compared to 24,000 for the prior four weeks. But in the key A25-54 demo, the struggling network remained stagnant, averaging  8,000 viewers, the same amount it averaged over the previous four weeks.

All statistics are based on Nielsen data.
