Aftermath: Meier Believes MSNBC “Came Within Moments Of Showing A Death”

By Brian

Randy Meier believes MSNBC almost showed a man die on the air during coverage of Katrina, this Poynter story says.

“In one remote Meier monitored from the set, a refugee pulled back a blanket to reveal a dead body. That didn’t make air, although Meier described the incident to viewers. In another, a crowd tried to revive a man who had collapsed on the sidewalk. That did make air, but MSNBC soon took another video source. As viewers watched that, Meier kept an eye on his anchor-desk monitor and saw the crowd around the collapsed man disperse. The figure on the sidewalk stopped all movement, and Meier believes the network came within moments of showing a death on the air.” (Thanks Ben)
