The government will allow reporters to cover the effort to recover the bodies of Hurricane Katrina victims — but it “won’t permit photographers to join them in boats or helicopters during the mission to recover bodies from flooded homes,” the AP says.

“We’re not going to bar, impede or prevent” the media from telling the story, Army Lt. Col. Richard Steele said. “We’re just not going to give the media a ride.”
