After Roger Ailes Twists Jon Klein’s Words, CNN P.R. Takes Aim At “Fox Fantasy World”

I can’t add anything to this NY Daily News item: CREDIBILITY GAP? CNN President Jonathan Klein’s armor-plated PR machine moved to crush Roger Ailes after the Fox News chairman claimed in this column that Klein “thinks that there are not enough liberals in the newsroom.” A CNN spokeswoman, who insists Klein never said anything close to that, theorizes that Ailes simply twisted Klein’s comments on “The Charlie Rose Show” that a “quote-unquote progressive or liberal network couldn’t reach” the Fox audience of “angry white men … because liberals tend to like to sample a lot of opinions.” Fox News’ PR juggernaut couldn’t give me any backup for Ailes’ version, and a Fox spokeswoman scoffed: “With the death of the Pope, this is what Jonathan Klein is worried about? He takes himself too seriously.” But a CNN spokeswoman – gloating that Fox jumped the gun Friday afternoon and announced the Pope’s death while he was still breathing – fired back: “Once again, Fox has the facts wrong. In Fox Fantasy World, they like to think that’s what the president of CNN goes around saying, but, unfortunately for them, it’s just not true.”
