Ad Buyers Will Applaud If Katie Couric Takes A Pay Cut

By Brian

An e-mailer responds to this morning’s NY Post report that CBS is offering Katie Couric less than the $15 million a year she currently makes at NBC because she would be on the air just 30 minutes a night:

“The fact is that 30 minutes of news in the (too) early evening generates *nowhere* near the ad revenue that a 3 hour block of morning babble does. It is simple math — six times the spots to sell and six million (morning) vs. eight million (evening) in audience. So teeth will be loudly gnashed (especially among evening news “talent” but the suits at CBS will be applauded by the ad buyers with the bucks for (finally) slapping down “talent” whose salary negotiation “facts” are often little more than hauteur married to gall.”
