Yahoo News global news anchor Katie Couric won the Shorty Award for “Best Journalist” Monday night, receiving the award from her Today colleague Al Roker–though she only appeared at the award ceremony in a video.

“I’m thrilled to receive this honor,” Couric said. “I guess I’ve come a long way since 1994,” referring to a segment on Today when Couric and Bryant Gumbel struggled to understand exactly what “internet” was.

“Now, I can’t imagine life without social media. It’s allowed me to interact with people in a much more intimate way, and most of the time that’s great. But sometimes, not so much. And that’s when I’ll block your ass,” Couric said, getting a big laugh.
