I should have mentioned this a few days ago: Last week, MSNBC’s Dan Abrams and Chris Matthews beat CNN’s Lou Dobbs and Wolf Blitzer in the 25-54 demographic. (CNN edged them in total viewers.)
For the week of January 16 to 20:
25-54 demographic:
6pm: Hume: 341,000 / Abrams: 113,000 / Dobbs: 98,000 / HLN: 70,000 / Mad Money: 67,000
7pm: Shep: 399,000 / Hardball: 137,000 / Blitzer: 112,000 / Showbiz: 72,000 / On The Money: 49,000
Total viewers:
6pm: Hume: 1,682,000 / Abrams: 263,000 / Dobbs: 617,000 / HLN: 166,000 / Mad Money: 211,000
7pm: Shep: 1,656,000 / Hardball: 423,000 / Blitzer: 543,000 / Showbiz: 146,000 / On The Money: 135,000
(The Abrams Report had a guest host, former judge Leslie Crocker Snyder, for two of the days.)
Notice the viewership age trends: Only 15 percent of Dobbs’ audience and only 20 percent of Hume’s audience is in the 25-54 demo. Abrams’ total audience is smaller, but 42 percent of the viewers are in the demo. At 7pm, 49 percent of Showbiz Tonight’s viewership was in the 25-54 demo last week, compared to 20 percent for Wolf, 24 percent for Shep, and 32 percent for Matthews…
