ABC’s Tom Llamas Gets an Exclusive Interview with First Lady Melania Trump in Kenya

Melania Trump hasn’t been particularly enthusiastic about speaking with the press since becoming first lady.

Perhaps that’s starting to change.

ABC News World News Tonight weekend anchor and chief national affairs correspondent Tom Llamas is getting an exclusive interview with Mrs. Trump during her trip to Africa, which is her first solo foreign trip as First Lady.

The interview takes place on Friday in Kenya, and will air next Friday, Oct. 12 on ABC in prime time as part of a 20/20 special: Being Melania – The First Lady.

When we chatted with 20/20 co-anchor Amy Robach last month, she hinted that season 41 would have more “newsy” stories. This seems to be in that vein:

We like to make sure this is in the news cycle, these are headlines, and that timing-wise, it makes sense we’re putting it on the air when we’re putting it on the air. To that end, we also as a show have always and will continue to really focus on breaking news as it happens. I think that’s what makes our show special and I’m proud of that.

Technically this won’t the first on-camera interview for Mrs. Trump since becoming first lady. She did one with CNN’s Kate Bennett at the Great Wall of China on Nov. 10, 2017 , though it wasn’t really a sit-down.
