Starting Monday, the view behind George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts will look a little different, as ABC News vacates its ground floor studio in Times Square as a cost-saving measure.
All production for “Good Morning America” will move to the second-floor studio, which will be getting a “light makeover” in preparation for the move, according to an ABC insider.
Some segments for “GMA,” including indoor concerts, have typically been shot in the first floor or “Subway” studio. Those segments will now be produced upstairs. “GMA” is still expected to have a major presence outside in Times Square, when the weather cooperates.
While Walt Disney owns the building, ABC News still has to lease the space. By moving out of the large, ground-floor studio, ABC News will save a significant chunk of change.
“It will certainly save the show some money, but it won’t impact production in any significant way,” the insider said.
