ABC News Adds Michael Falcone, Promotes Zachary Wolf

By Alex Weprin

ABC News has hired Michael Falcone as deputy political director and author of “The Note” and Zachary Wolf as deputy political director and digital political editor.

Falcone comes to ABC News from The Huffington Post, where he served as political editor, Wolf had been a US Senate producer for ABC News.

In a note to staffers, ABC News political director Amy Walter praised Falcone’s web-savviness:

Not only has Michael established himself as a talented political journalist, but he’s been in the vanguard of a new generation of “plugged-in” reporters. He doesn’t just “get” the importance of the Internet, he’s spent most of his career as a web-based journalist.

Her full memo is after the jump.

I’m excited to announce that Michael Falcone will be joining ABC News as Deputy Political Director and Political Reporter. He will also author “The Note” – ABC News’ early morning political tip-sheet and blog. Not only has Michael established himself as a talented political journalist, but he’s been in the vanguard of a new generation of “plugged-in” reporters. He doesn’t just “get” the importance of the Internet, he’s spent most of his career as a web-based journalist. Building on the success of Rick Klein, Michael will bring his well-established web savviness and well-honed political skills to “The Note.”

Michael will join ABC News in mid September from The Huffington Post where he has served as political editor. In that capacity he has overseen political coverage for the site and helped manage special projects, including coverage of the anticipated 2010 midterm elections. Prior to the Huffington Post, Michael covered national politics with special focus on congressional and gubernatorial races for Politico and served as a political blogger and reporter for The New York Times.

I am also pleased to announce that Zach Wolf has been named Digital Political Editor and Deputy Political Director for ABC News. Prior to this new assignment, Zach, whom I like to call “the guru of Capitol Hill,” covered the Senate as an ABC News producer and daily contributor to ABC News.com and reporter for ABC News NOW. In this role he reported on the 2006 transition from Republican to Democratic control of Congress and the Health Reform debate in 2009 and 2010 as well as every subject considered by the Senate. Zach also served as a digital journalist assigned to covering Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential campaign for ABC and previously cut his journalistic chop as an Assignment Editor in ABC’s Washington Bureau and as a freelance producer in his home state of California.

Both Michael and Zach will work closely with me and Sara Just, ABC News’ Senior Producer for digital media in Washington.
