ABC Allowed Exclusive Access to Final Hour of Oscars Red Carpet

By Chris Ariens

Award show red carpets have become almost as big of a deal as the award ceremony they precede.

And once again there will be several live TV specials, and dozens of taped interviews for use later. Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic are back hosting on E!, Entertainment Tonight will have a live special on Pop, and, ABC, which is the TV home of the Academy Awards, will produce a 90-minute special hosted by Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan.

The ET special airs until 7:30 p.m while E!’s special will continue until 8:30 with news updates, fashion highlights and photos, just nothing live from the red carpet. ABC gets the red carpet to itself for the final hour, leading up to the ceremony at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Also, for the first time ever, the Academy is allowing ABC to broadcast interviews live from the Grand Staircase. Lara Spencer and Amy Robach will also be a part of the show, along with People magazine’s Jess Cagle and FABLife co-host Joe Zee.

ABC’s Lincoln Square Productions is producing the special, executive produced by John Green and directed by Jeff Winn.

The 88th Oscars telecast will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
