“A Lot Of Fox Employees Have Contributed To Democratic Candidates”

By Brian

Fox News, unlike other television news networks, allows its employees to make political donations. Ann Stewart Banker, a producer for The O’Reilly Factor, donated $5,000 to a Republican PAC in June 2006, MSNBC.com’s investigation found.

And Codie Brooks, a researcher for Special Report with Brit Hume, donated “$300 to Senate campaign of Harold Ford Jr., Tennessee Democrat, in March 2006, $200 more in June, and $2,100 more in September.” Brooks “said she raised much of the $2,600 from friends — it wasn’t her money alone.”

Here’s the interesting quote from Brooks: “A lot of Fox employees have contributed to Democratic candidates. I know I’m not the only one.”

Why didn’t the others come up in MSNBC.com’s research?

The prohibitions and limitations on political contributions outlined above relate only to the use of corporate funds and services and are not intended to discourage employees from making personal contributions to candidates or political parties of their choice. Personal involvement in political activity is permitted as long as the activity does not interfere with or impair the performance of the employee’s duties for the Company. In addition, any employee who becomes involved with a political group must make it clear that his or her activities are being conducted purely in a personal capacity and not on behalf of or in connection with the Company.”
