It was a big Monday morning for NBC’s “Today.” Right out of the gate following headlines, Ann Curry introduced the first new installment of “Where in the World is Matt Lauer?” in more than three years.

“For the first time this week and hopefully for the fifth to last time ever, where in the world am I?” Lauer quipped after appearing on a sand dune. Where was he? Watch below.

If the Lauer segment was fun and cheeky, the interview Curry conducted with GOP candidate Newt Gingrich was decidedly not. The interview got off to an awkward start with Gingrich praising the country Lauer visited, forcing Curry to interrupt him and get back on the subject of politics. After Curry asked about the allegations of sexual harassment against another candidate, Herman Cain, Gingrich tore into the news media:

“When the news media goes and finds an anonymous report about an anonymous incident about which you have remarkably limited information, and you decide that matters more than any other issue on the campaign, it puts your judgement in doubt,” he said.
