The commemoration began at 8:45amET this morning with a moment of silence to mark the moment the attack began. NBC’s Matt Lauer and Tom Brokaw, sitting in for Savannah Guthrie on “Today,” anchored an NBC News special report. “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos anchored a special report during “GMA” and “CBS This Morning” brought in NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton and former CBS News correspondent, John Miller, who is now Bratton’s aide at the NYPD, for their coverage.
As it has for the last 12 years, MSNBC is running NBC News programming, anchored by Matt Lauer, Katie Couric and Tom Brokaw, as it happened on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. Interspersed with news of the day, CNN and Fox News have been marking that morning with remembrances and marked moments — when the first two planes hit the two World Trade Center towers, when the third hit the Pentagon, when the South Tower fell, when the fourth plane crashed into a field in Shanksville, PA, and finally, when the North Tower collapsed at 10:28amET.
