86-year-old California native Joy Johnson— the oldest runner in Sunday’s New York City Marathon—died Monday afternoon, a few hours after being part of the “Today” crowd.
Al Roker spoke to Johnson on the “Today” plaza, where she talked about completing her 25th marathon in New York, telling Roker that the bandages on her face were from a fall she took during Sunday’s marathon. “It looks worse than it really is,” she said. She finished in 7 hours, 57 minutes and 41 seconds.
After her “Today” appearance she went back to her hotel room where she passed away.
