’60 Minutes’ Begins Newtown Story By Acknowledging Inaccurate Early Reports

Scott Pelley led off last night’s “60 Minutes” with an eyewitness retelling of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary from the school’s nurse. Pelley’s introduction acknowledged the inaccurate reporting on CBS and other networks and news sites in the hours after Friday morning’s massacre. Pelley:

We were told that the gunman’s mother was a teacher at the school, that he was allowed in because he was recognized, and that he targeted his mother’s classroom with two handguns. Tonight we know that all of that is wrong.
