“More than 39 million people tuned in to see President Bush’s address to the nation from storm-ravaged Louisiana,” the Hollywood Reporter recaps. “The speech — available on the broadcast networks as well as cable channels — averaged 36 million viewers between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday, according to data released Friday by Nielsen Media Research. An additional 3.6 million viewers watched the Spanish-language version on Telemundo and Univision, Nielsen said.
Among the broadcast networks, CBS — which also premiered ‘Survivor’ on Thursday night — had the most viewers with such a strong lead in. CBS’s coverage averaged 11.7 million viewers.”
