By A.J. Katz

After a 21-year run, Elizabeth Vargas is departing ABC News for A&E, and on Monday night, 20/20 senior executive producer David Sloan threw a party for Vargas to thank her for her all she’s done at ABC News over those 21 years, and to wish her well on her next chapter.

Anchors Diane Sawyer and David Muir were also present at the festivities, in addition to the 20/20 team and friends.

Vargas’s next chapter will be as the face of the new A&E franchise, A&E Investigates.

The first project under the A&E Investigates banner will be a 9-part series called Cults and Extreme Belief, debuting on Monday.

Vargas, who announced her imminent departure from ABC News  back in December, spent the last 14 years at ABC News as co-anchor of 20/20. The network recently named Amy Robach as the new co-host of the show.
