WTOP Sweeps Murrows

WTOP-FM, Bonneville International’s News station in Washington, D.C. swept the Edward R. Murrow Awards, winning 11 awards, the most of any news organization. Bonneville’s KIRO-AM also won big, walking away with 9 awards.

The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded 540 regional awards in 18 categories for excellence in electronic journalism.

Two Gannett NBC affiliates also won multiple awards. KARE-TV in Minneapolis, with 10 Murrows, was the most awarded to a large market TV station. KUSA-TV in Denver, won 8 awards.

Other top winners were Boston’s National Public Radio Station, WBUR-FM, with 10 awards and News 12 Connecticut in Norwalk, Conn., with 6.

Seven Hearst-Argyle Television stations were honored with 18 regional awards. KCCI-TV, the company’s CBS affiliate in Des Moines and WMUR-TV, the company’s ABC affiliate in Manchester, N.H., both won for overall excellence, breaking news, and best newscast.
