Updated: Fox’s WS Game 5 to Resume Tomorrow

Soaking rain over Philadelphia brought Game 5 of the 2008 World Series to a halt, as officials elected to suspend the 2-2 contest in the middle of the sixth inning. Play will resume on Wednesday.

The Rays and Phillies were tentatively slated to pick up where they left off tonight (Oct. 28), but with rain continuing to fall on Southeastern Pennsylvania, Major League Baseball now says that play will start up again tomorrow at 8:37 p.m. ET.

Areas just north of Philadelphia were reporting snowfall early Tuesday afternoon.

In the meantime, Fox hopes the unprecedented delay will help boost the ratings, which have been decidedly lackluster. Through the first four games, Fox is averaging 13.2 million total viewers, down 23 percent versus the 2007 Red Sox-Rockies Series, which averaged 17.1 million viewers in the course of a four-game Boston sweep.
