Stella Artois to Fund Wedding for Couple Engaged During Quarantine

You could argue that Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton are experts at falling in love while physically apart. During filming of the Netflix reality dating series Love Is Blind, the couple got engaged before seeing each other face-to-face and married in the season finale.

Stella Artois has tapped the two, who are still together, to encourage people to get engaged now as part of the brand’s new Twitter contest themed around social distancing.

The Anheuser-Busch (AB InBev) brand has announced it will fund a wedding for one couple who gets engaged while under quarantine. Now through May 25, couples can enter to win by posting a photo and brief story of their engagement on Twitter, tagging Stella Artois and Lauren and using the hashtag #WeddingContest. Lauren and Cameron will select the winning couple, who will receive $30,000 from Stella Artois to use for their future wedding expenses.

The contest is part of the brand’s “Far From You, But Yes I Do” messaging, which kicked off last week with a sponsored livestream on Lauren’s Instagram page, where she and Cameron offered viewers tips on how to make connections while physically apart.

“We partnered with Lauren and Cameron because they gained fame for falling in love before meeting in person,” said Lara Krug, U.S. vp of marketing for Stella Artois. “They know a thing or two about making connections when physical proximity is a barrier, so we wanted to help them share their knowledge so others could do the same.”

“Far From You, But Yes I Do” serves as a follow-up to Stella Artois’ “The Life Artois” campaign, which the brand launched in February to coincide with Valentine’s Day. Krug said the new initiative “underscores what ‘The Life Artois’ is all about, which is savoring life with those who matter most, even if from afar.”

Stella Artois is working with agency partners 3PM/Weber Shandwick, Synergy, Dentsu Aegis and its internal AB InBev creative team Draftline to execute the program, which Krug said could include more appearances from the Love Is Blind stars in the future.

Based on the Twitter entries so far, many couples getting engaged seem to be quarantined together. But a couple meeting virtually, with someone popping the question over FaceTime, wouldn’t be too absurd in this new reality. In response to the pandemic, dating apps are encouraging members looking for romantic connections to stay home but keep dating digitally.
