Household Rating/Share NBC: 4.8/ 8, Fox: 4.6/ 8, CBS: 3.9/ 7, ABC: 3.3/ 6, CW: 0.7/ 1 Note: The overnight comparisons to one year earlier are not available today. Yesterday’s Winners: America’s Got Talent (NBC) Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Love in the Wild (NBC) Ratings Breakdown: NBC inched past second-place Fox in the Wednesday overnights, with a 0.2 rating point advantage. Third overall was CBS, followed by ABC and lowly The CW, which is limited by no new programming this summer. An original installment of game show Minute to Win It opened for NBC with a second-place 3.2 rating/6 share in the overnights at 8 p.m. That led into summer sensation America’s Got Talent at a dominant 7.8/13 at 9 p.m., which was easily the highest rated show of the evening, followed by week two of relationship/reality competition Love in the Wild at a last-place 3.4/ 6. While Love in the Wild is expected to win the 10 p.m. hour among adults 18-49, retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of America’s Got Talent (8.3/13) was only 41 percent. Erosion for Love in the Wild from week one (4.0/ 7 on June 29), meanwhile, was 15 percent. Fox aired two-hours of So You Think You Can Dance, which remained a competitive option with a 4.6/ 8 from 8-10 p.m. and the half-hour breakdown as follows: So You Think You Can Dance (Fox) 8:00 p.m.: 4.6/ 8 (#1) 8:30 p.m.: 4.8/ 8 (#1) 9:00 p.m.: 4.5/ 7 (#2) 9:30 p.m.: 4.3/ 7 (#2) Over at ABC, a Casey Anthony themed edition of Primetime Nightline finished second at 10 p.m., with a 4.5/ 8 in the overnights. Earlier in the evening on ABC were repeats of The Middle (two episodes: #3, avg. 3.0/ 6 from 8-9 p.m.), Modern Family (#4: 2.9/ 5) and Happy Endings (#4: 1.9/ 3) from 8-10 p.m. The sharp erosion for Happy Endings out of Modern Family this summer is unlikely to bode well for original episodes this fall. Elsewhere, CBS filled this first Thursday in July with repeats of Undercover Boss (#3: 3.1/ 6), Criminal Minds (#3: 4.1/ 7) and CSI, which finished first in its new fall time period with a 4.7/ 8 at 10 p.m. Two encore telecasts of America’s Next Top Model on The CW averaged a very last-place 0.7/ 1 from 8-10 p.m. Source: Nielsen Media Research data (R = repeat) _______________________________________________________________ NATIONAL RATINGS IN PRIME-TIME: Week of June 27, 2011 Led by America’s Got Talent and the season-finale of The Voice, it was another victory for NBC, which finished first for the week of June 27 in total viewers and the three key demos – adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34. Comparably, the network built from one year earlier by 22 percent in total viewers and as much as 23 percent demographically (among adults 18-49). CBS ranked first in households, with erosion of three percent from one year earlier. Elsewhere, Fox and The CW suffered steep year-to-year losses, while ABC, which ranked as high as No. 2 in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, was close to one year earlier. In series-premiere news, relationship/reality competition Love in the Wild on NBC was sampled out of America’s Got Talent in the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour, with 6.48 million viewers (#13 overall) and a 2.2 rating/6 share among adults 18-49 (#6). But retention out of aforementioned America’s Got Talent (Viewers: 13.71 million; A18-49: 4.1/12) was a modest 47 percent in total viewers and 54 percent in the demo. In season-finale news, NBC hit The Voice, which returns Mondays from 8-10 p.m. in midseason (into new musical dramedy Smash), signed off in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour with a winning 11.05 million viewers (#4) and a 3.7/13 in the demo (#3). Also on NBC was the series-finale of Law & Order: Los Angeles at 6.25 million viewers (#16) and a 1.4/ 4 in the demo (#19t) in the Monday 10 p.m. time period. A record 4.58 million viewers tuned into HLN from 2-3 p.m., with a reported 2.12 million in primetime the largest audience for HLN since Sept. 11, 2001. Final National Ratings in Syndication – Week of June 20: Minus Oprah, not a single talker cracked the top 20 this week, which featured predominantly repeats. First in the genre was CBS Television Distribution’s Dr. Phil, which was tied at No. 24 overall (with King of the Hill from Twentieth Television) with a 2.4 rating. Wednesday comedies Up All Night and Free Agents will get an early preview on the night in the 10 p.m. hour on Sept. 14 out of the two-hour season finale of America’s Got Talent. One week later they move into their regularly scheduled 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. half-hours.
