Household Rating/Share CBS, NBC and Fox: 4.4/ 8 each, ABC: 2.6/ 5, CW: 0.7/ 1 Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening (Wednesday 7/14/10): CBS: + 2, ABC: no change, Fox: - 6, NBC: -14, CW: -22 Yesterday’s Winners: America’s Got Talent (NBC) Reliable Summer Entries: Big Brother (CBS), So You Think You Can Dance (Fox) Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Minute to Win It (NBC) Ratings Breakdown: It was a three-way tie for overnight Wednesday leadership among CBS, NBC, and Fox, with standout America’s Got Talent expected to lead NBC to victory among adults 18-49. Fourth overall was lowly ABC, followed by always distant The CW. America’s Got Talent on NBC led the overnights, with a 7.0 rating/12 share at 9 p.m. Comparably, that built from lead-in Minute to Win It (#3: 3.2/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by 118 percent. Week three of lead-in out Love in the Wild finished third at 10 p.m. with a 3.1/ 6, but that should still be enough to win the time period among adults 18-49. Retention for Love in the Wild out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of America’s Got Talent (7.3/12) was only 42 percent. Two hours of So You Think You Can Dance on Fox averaged a 4.4/ 8 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was down by 6 percent from one year earlier. Here is the half-hour breakdown: So You Think You Can Dance (Fox) 8:00 p.m.: 4.5/ 8 (#1) 8:30 p.m.: 4.5/ 8 (#1) 9:00 p.m.: 4.3/ 7 (#2) 9:30 p.m.: 4.2/ 7 (#2) Over at CBS, the Wednesday 8 p.m. time period return of Big Brother finished one-tenth of a rating point behind the first hour of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, with a 4.4/ 8. Compared to one year earlier (4.2/ 8 on July 14, 2010), this was an increase of 5 percent. Next on the Eye net was a repeat of Criminal Minds (#3: 4.3/ 8 at 9 p.m.), followed by an encore telecast of relocated CSI at a dominant 4.7/ 8 at 10 p.m. As a reminder, Ted Danson will be joining the cast of CSI next season. Elsewhere, ABC traveled the repeat route from 8-10 p.m. with its combination of animated special Lucy Must Be Traded, Charlie Brown (#4: 2.4/ 4), The Middle (#4: 2.2/ 4), Modern Family (#4: 2.7/ 4), and Happy Endings (#4: 2.1/ 3). At 10 p.m., a Miracle Mysteries-themed edition of Primetime Nightline: Beyond Belief finished second with a 3.3/ 6 in the overnights. Based on Monday and Tuesday of this week, Father Albert is averaging a modest 0.7 rating/2 share in the metered markets, which is equal to its year-ago time period but down by a significant 36 percent from the lead-in (1.1/ 4). Final National Ratings in Syndication – Week of June 27: Judge Judy and Wheel of Fortune, both from the house of hits, CBS Television Distribution, led the syndicated troops, each with a 6.0 rating in households. With Oprah gone, NBC Universal’s Maury was the top-rated talker, with a 2.2 rating. Comparably, that was the first time in Maury’s 13-year history it had sole possession of first place in the category. Thirteen new episodes are expected to air on the network next summer. Lab Rats on Disney XD: Disney XD has ordered Lab Rats, a live-action comedy about a teenager who discovers three teen super-humans with bionic powers in the basement of his home. Production begins in September for a 2012 launch. Glee Sheds at Least Three: Glee stars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer, among others, will be exiting the hit Fox dramedy next spring to coincide with their characters’ graduation from high school. “More characters are leaving than staying,” said Glee creator Ryan Murphy. Stay tuned. Emmy Award Nominations: Nominations for the 63nd Annual Prime-Time Emmy Awards, which will air on Fox on Sunday, September 18, have been announced. Consistency was the overall observation, with the majority of nominations repeats from one year earlier. Shows that received multiple nods include Boardwalk Empire (HBO), Glee (Fox), The Good Wife (CBS), Mad Men (AMC), and Modern Family (ABC). Modern Family, in fact, received supporting comedy nominations for each of its six principal cast members. But there was some fresh blood. Three of the six nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy—Laura Linney (The Big C, Showtime), Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly, CBS), and Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope, Fox)—represented freshman series. Matt LeBlanc (Episodes, Showtime) and Louis C.K. (Louie, FX) snagged nods for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy, as did Mirielle Enos and Michelle Forbes for AMC’s The Killing. And HBO’s revival of Mildred Pierce dominated the miniseries categories. In long-overdue news, CBS’ The Big Big Theory and Friday Night Lights on NBC made the cut for Outstanding Comedy and Drama Series, as did Johnny Galecki (opposite last year’s winner, Jim Parsons, on The Big Bang Theory) for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Beloved Betty White, meanwhile, is competing for Outstanding Supporting Actress for TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland. White’s former co-star, Cloris Leachman, snagged her 22nd Emmy nomination, this year for Fox’s Raising Hope.
