Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), 89, died this morning of viral pneumonia. The news was first reported by The Bergen Record, citing the Senator's office and the statement from his Washington office is here

Lautenberg, 89, was the oldest member of the Senate and the last to have served in World War II. He announced in February that he would not seek re-election in 2014. 

Lautenberg was elected to the Senate in 1982 and was re-elected in 1988 and 1994.
