CBS Wins; More Positive Results for ABC’s Rookie Blue
CW 0.9/ 2
Note: The year-to-year overnight comparisons were not available today.
Wipeout (ABC), So You Think You Can Dance (Fox), The Mentalist R (CBS)
There was little of note on this first Thursday of July, with a night of repeats on CBS first in the overnights, with a nine percent advantage over second-place ABC. Third overall was Fox, followed by an embarrassingly low NBC and yet another night of repeats on The CW.
A Thursday 8 p.m. edition of ABC’s Wipeout won the 8 p.m. hour in the overnights, with a 5.1 rating/9 share, and it has a lock for dominance among adults 18-49. Week two of lead-out Rookie Blue finished third in the 9 p.m. hour (behind a repeat of CBS’ CSI and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance), with a 4.4/ 7. And this should be considered a positive because erosion from it’s week-ago opener (4.8/ 8 on June 24) was only eight percent. Plus, retention out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Wipeout (5.3/ 9) was respectable at 83 percent.
ABC newsmagazine Boston Med, unfortunately, dipped to a 3.6/ 6 in the overnights at 10 p.m., which finished second behind a repeat of CBS’ The Mentalist (#1: 5.5/10). Earlier in the evening on CBS was an 8 p.m. encore telecast of The Mentalist (#2: 4.4/ 8) and a repeat of aforementioned granddaddy CSI (#1: 4.6/ 8) from 8-10 p.m.
Moving to Fox, a repeat of Glee, which deserves to be revisited (or discovered) this summer, finished a distant third in the overnights at 8 p.m., with a 2.8/ 7. That led into the live So You Think You Can Dance Results Show at a first-place 4.5/ 8. Comparably, that built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of the Glee encore (2.9/ 5) by a hefty 55 percent.
In series-finale news, NBC sitcom clinker 100 Questions bid adieu with a series-low 1.3/ 2 at 8:30 p.m., which historically could be NBC’s worst overnight performance in the Thursday 8:30 p.m. half-hour ever. At 8 p.m. on NBC was a repeat of Community (#4: 1.7/ 3), which should not be anchoring Thursday next season. And leading out of 100 Questions were repeats of The Office (#4: 2.1/ 4), 30 Rock (#4: 2.0/ 3), another episode of The Office (#3: 2.0/ 3) and Parks and Recreation (#3: 1.6/ 3) from 9-11 p.m. Remember the glory days when even repeats of NBC’s “Must See” Thursday comedies performed exceptionally well?
The CW closed the night with repeats of The Vampire Diaries (#5: 1.0/ 2) and former CBS drama Moonlight (#5: 0.9/ 1).
Just to keep your interest intact for next season, here is a reminder of the upcoming Thursday line-up (with the new shows capped and bolded). A new season of The Apprentice minus the celebrities steps in for just benched new comedy anthology Love Bites.
8:00 p.m.: The Big Bang Theory (new day and time)
