NATPE 2010: Debmar-Mercury to Bring In ‘Jeremy Kyle’

Debmar-Mercury, the home of The Wendy Williams Show, will team with producer ITV Studios to introduce a U.S. version of U.K. talker The Jeremy Kyle Show in a limited, multiweek, on-air preview later this year. If all goes well, the distributor will launch it nationally in 2011. Unlike entertainment-driven Wendy Williams, Jeremy Kyle is known for confronting guests to attempt to solve serious issues.
“We believe American viewers, stations and advertisers will wholeheartedly embrace Jeremy Kyle, who is such a great talent and brings his unique sensibility to a proven format, in the new U.S. version of this very popular series,” said Ira Bernstein, Debmar-Mercury co-president.
Added Paul Buccieri, president and CEO of ITV Studios: “In less than five years, Jeremy Kyle has become a phenomenon in U.K. daytime television and has the talent to accomplish the same feat here. This well-honed format crafted by ITV, combined with Debmar-Mercury’s winning track record as an innovative producer-distributor and our own ability to successfully adapt TV formats for U.S. viewers, gives us great confidence in this project.”
Also from Debmar-Mercury, the distributor has cleared 180 hour-long episodes of The True Hollywood Story (THS), once a staple on E!, in approximately 65 percent of the country.  Represented station groups include CBS, Fox, Capitol, Landmark, Scripps, Sunbeam and Weigel.
